Overview

Serials Solutions and the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC) have announced an agreement to provide the 93 SCELC member libraries access to a consortium-wide version of Electronic Resources Management System™ (ERMS), Serials Solutions’ complete solution for managing library electronic collections.  It is among the first consortia implementations of an ERM system in the United States, and also the largest.

The SCELC ERMS will allow consortium member libraries to view electronic journal title holdings for all SCELC licensed content. ERMS provides SCELC with tools to manage vendor contacts, licenses and terms of use, subscription status, and renewals. Using ERMS, the consortium can keep track of acquisitions notes, outage reports, and other useful information about each resource. Consortia staff can manage administrative/end-user logins and passwords.

"The SCELC consortium is a longstanding client of Serials Solutions and we have a proven track record of success working with its members. Among them, the SCELC libraries use every product Serials Solutions offers. We are delighted to have this opportunity to provide them with a state-of-the-art ERMS. Because the SCELC consortium includes first-rate libraries of all sizes and types, it is a wonderful chance to demonstrate the value of ERMS in many different settings," said Chris Pierard, Serials Solutions co-founder and director of sales.

Rick Burke, executive director of SCELC said, "SCELC provides numerous opportunities for its members to subscribe to or purchase a multitude of electronic resources. We are excited to now be able to provide a sophisticated management tool, the Serials Solutions ERMS, to our members as a free benefit, and to partner with Serials Solutions to develop a comprehensive consortial version of the ERMS. SCELC libraries will be able to manage license terms and conditions and view one another’s subscription holdings, helping SCELC further develop a systemwide view of the jointly subscribed resources among this very diverse group. Ultimately, we see this is an opportunity to further our goal of collaborative collection development, helping our libraries maximize their purchasing power, better utilize usage statistics, and enhance the tangible benefits of membership in SCELC."

About the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium

SCELC was established in 1986 to develop resource-sharing relationships among the libraries of private academic institutions in California. SCELC seeks to explore issues related to electronic and digital information and to promote the creation, access, use, management and maintenance of this information for the benefit of faculty and students in the member institutions. It further seeks to improve related library staff skills through development and training activities. While regional in its membership focus, SCELC is committed to cooperative relationships with other library consortia and professional organizations and welcomes opportunities for joint projects and programs that contribute to enhancement of information resources in the region.
