An additional 7 U.S. military newspapers will be available from ProQuest to libraries and educational institutions worldwide on a non-exclusive basis.

ProQuest has signed a long-term agreement to be the exclusive provider of 85 full-text newspaper titles from the world-leading news and information provider Gannett Company, Inc. An additional 7 U.S. military newspapers will be available from ProQuest to libraries and educational institutions worldwide on a non-exclusive basis. These titles will be made available through ProQuest Newsstand, ProQuest Archiver™, and ProQuest’s Newspapers in Microfilm, and as an add-on package to ProQuest Central. Six of the largest Gannett titles are also slated to be produced as ProQuest Historical Newspapers.

“Partnerships with renowned publishers, like Gannett, are aimed at helping libraries create a link between researchers and invaluable information,” said Rod Gauvin, senior vice president of publishing for ProQuest.   “ProQuest has long been relied upon for access to the best news coverage. Our focus now is continuing to assemble the right pieces of content to add even more value to the information solutions users need most.  We entered into this long term agreement with Gannett because we are firm believers in the value of this content now and for years to come.”

Newspapers are particularly valuable not only for the data they provide, but for the unique perspectives offered in each paper.   These local and regional Gannett newspapers have played a vital role in forming public opinion and reporting on events most relevant to their diverse constituencies.   Researchers will soon be able to compare and contrast the perspectives of these Gannett titles with other titles in the ProQuest news program.  The Gannett content spans 30 states, and includes renowned newspapers such as, Detroit Free Press , The Arizona Republic, Tallahassee Democrat, The Cincinnati Enquirer, The Tennessean, The Honolulu Advertiser, The Indianapolis Star, Democrat & Chronicle (Rochester, NY), and Burlington Free Press .  A complete list of Gannett titles to be available through ProQuest can be found at

Through this partnership, ProQuest will also offer access to the leading U.S. military newspapers.  These newspapers are relied upon by active duty, reserve and retired military personnel, and defense decision-makers for extensive breaking news coverage. Access to these titles will enable researchers to retrieve information regarding issues of importance to the military, and compare reporting in military newspapers with civilian papers.  ProQuest will offer current and historical news and information from the Air Force Times, Armed Forces Journal, Army Times, Defense News , Marine Corps Times, Military City, and Navy Times.

This long term licensing agreement with Gannett is the latest in a series of enhancements aimed at offering a total news solution for libraries.  ProQuest's significantly expanding news program includes extensive current news offerings containing more than 700 leading newspapers from around the world, including over 550 full-text titles, and ProQuest Historical Newspapers™, the world's largest digital newspaper archive, encompassing more than 20 million pages dating from 1764.  It also includes unique delivery systems with partners such as Library PressDisplay®, which provides libraries with same-day direct access to more than 800 current international and domestic dailies in full-image, full-page format, and Critical Mention®, a comprehensive web-based television and radio search and monitoring service that allows users to search, track and view critical information from over 150 U.S. and international broadcast news networks.  For more information, visit
