Solution Searches All Resources at Once, Including OPAC and Other Local Holdings

Jan. 20, 2011 – Seattle, Washington & Ahmedabad, India – Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest LLC, announced today that the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad (IIMA), a leading graduate school in India, has selected and successfully implemented Serials Solutions 360 Search. The hosted 360 Search service will be used by the IIMA to more easily connect students and other patrons to its library content.

Over the past year, the IIMA considered several major federated search engines, but selected 360 Search after impressive results during beta testing. During the trials, librarians discovered that with 360 Search, a user can type a single query and quickly derive results from all of the IIMA library resources. Librarians also appreciated the customization options that provided them with the ability to tailor the service to accommodate all levels of users.

“The demand on our online library resources is quite high,” explained Dr. H. Anil Kumar, a librarian with the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. “360 Search enables significant ease of use for library users in discovering the information they seek from our vast collection of resources. At the same time, 360 Search helps our patrons avoid information overload with its results clustering feature.”

“Results clustering is a feature of the 360 Search service that helps patrons find answers fast,” explained Rob Mercer, vice president of global sales for Serials Solutions. “By grouping search results by sub-topics, dates, journals and authors, 360 Search makes it much easier for researchers to find what they need. The feature eliminates the need for people to sort through what could be thousands of citations to find the best content, and it is so intuitive and easy to use that it requires no training.”

Serials Solutions 360 Search culminates more than a decade of development. It combines the world’s two leading federated search engines—360 Search and WebFeat—making 360 Search the single most powerful and feature-packed federated search service available.

“The fact that 360 Search is a hosted service is a key strength for us,” added Dr. Kumar. “With a hosted service, we can outsource many of the IT requirements associated with federated search. 360 Search is also powered by Serials Solutions KnowledgeWorks, a comprehensive knowledgebase that is updated daily with the most current holdings information, so we have access to the most accurate metadata, a requirement for reliable searching.”
