360 Counter to Provide More Efficiency in Viewing and Reporting Journal Usage Across Titles

Jan. 20, 2011 – Seattle, Washington & Bangalore, India – Serials Solutions,  a business unit of ProQuest LLC, announced today that the Indian Institute of Management at Bangalore (IIMB), a leading graduate school in India, has selected and successfully implemented Serials Solutions 360 Counter to provide librarians with an easy-to-use system for viewing, analyzing and reporting on the use and return on investment (ROI) surrounding their collections.

“360 Counter gives us an enormously important resource to understand what journals are being used by our patrons,” said Dr. K. Rama Patnaik, a librarian with the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.  “This is important as we look to justify our expenditures and optimize purchases based on students’ needs. 360 Counter is truly helping us make more informed decisions about which resources we should continue subscribing to, and which should be eliminated.”

Librarians at IIMB found the reporting and analysis capabilities with 360 Counter to be extremely beneficial.  According to Dr. Patnaik, 360 Counter dramatically reduces the time it takes to process and analyze usage data received from COUNTER-compliant reports. “We simply aggregate our key reports and upload them to 360 Counter,” he explained. “After that, 360 Counter takes over. The service inserts costs, associates subjects, standardizes titles,  calculates usage and costs and automates analysis. We can then customize our reporting based on the criterion that’s most important to our stakeholders.”

“We are thrilled that this prestigious school has chosen Serials Solutions 360 Counter for its cost-per-use reporting and analysis,” said Rob Mercer, vice president of global sales for Serials Solutions. “The many features of this service—from data retrieval capabilities and advanced assessment reporting to standardized data from our world class KnowledgeWorks knowledgebase—will serve them and their patrons well.”
