Libraries and their users benefit from rich data embedded in discovery services

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, June 22, 2017 – ProQuest and Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, are helping libraries improve the research experience and expand exploration by integrating ProQuest® Syndetics Unbound with the Ex Libris Primo® and Summon® discovery services.

The integration with ProQuest® Syndetics Unbound, a groundbreaking online enrichment service, enables libraries to create a better discovery experience for today’s researcher while maximizing the value of their collections. Libraries can display Syndetics Unbound data on their Primo and Summon catalog detail pages to showcase items and increase user engagement. Researchers see familiar elements such as title recommendations, author information, look-inside-the-book pages, series information, professional reviews, reader reviews, tags, book profiles, and awards.

Activation of the Syndetics Unbound integration is easy, requiring just a click in the discovery service’s administration console. Summon customers with Syndetics Unbound subscriptions can benefit from enriched catalog detail pages immediately, and Primo customers will be able to activate the service with the next Primo release in August 2017. Customers interested in obtaining Syndetics Unbound subscriptions can request additional information at https://proquest.syndetics.com/.

“The incorporation of Syndetics data into Summon and Primo enhances resource discovery and promotes libraries’ local collections through features that researchers expect today,” said Shlomi Kringel, Ex Libris Corporate Vice President of Discovery and Delivery Solutions. “We are excited to help libraries deliver a richer user experience, guide users’ exploration, and maximize the use of their collections.”

“Combining these complementary services is part of the ProQuest strategy to accelerate innovation and enable libraries to provide more value to their users,” said Kevin Sayar, Senior Vice President and General Manager, ProQuest Books. “We look forward to offering our customers even more user-focused services.”
