My Research Privacy Information
Your Privacy on the Platform & The Personal Information We Collect
Your privacy on the Platform, and the Personal Information you may choose to provide to us (and we will collect) will depend on the manner in which you choose to use the Platform, including the My Research section.
As with some of the other ProQuest Sites, some portions of the Platform can be accessed or used without entering any Personal Information and other portions or the Platform may require you to provide Personal Information in order to access and/or use certain services, features or benefits.
Platform Log In: You may be able to log into the Platform without providing any Personal Information if you are logging in from an authenticated IP address such as from you subscribing Institution. In other instances, you may be required to log in to the Platform using a username and password. In some instances the username and password may be provided to you by your Institution. In other cases, you may choose to log in to the Platform with your username and password that you create through your "My Research Account" (discussed further herein). If you wish to link certain ProQuest accounts to the Platform, such as your RefWorks account, you may also be required to provide your login name, password and/or group code associated with that account.
My Research Area of the Platform & My Research Account: The My Research area of the Platform is a place where you can save, manage, and organize the stuff you find on or through the Platform or ProQuest Sites. Your "stuff" can include documents, searches, tags, shared lists, search alerts, RSS feeds, and more. Although you can access and use a portion of the My Research area without entering any Personal Information, you have the option of creating a My Research Account to take advantage of all of the available features (such as managing saved searches and document folders; creating shared lists, and tags; setting up preferences alerts and RSS feeds; and managing account information and preferences).
If you choose to create a My Research Account, you will be required to provide certain Personal Information such as your first and last name, email address, and/or Institution (some of which may be optional). You will also be required to create a user name and password that you will use to sign in to your My Research Account and access certain features.
If you are an employee of a subscribing Institution or if your company purchases access to the Platform and/or My Research Account on your behalf, your company and or subscribing Institution may, in accordance with applicable law and/or company policies, have certain rights regarding access, ownership and/or use of your my Research Account.
Public Profile: In order to use certain features of the Platform, such as sharing and tagging (which are discussed in more detail below), you must create and maintain a Public Profile ("Public Profile") through the Platform. When you create a Public Profile through the Platform, your Public Profile, may be viewable and searchable on or through the Platform by all users who have online access to the Platform (the "ProQuest Community"), as well as on or through the open World Wide Web by anyone and everyone who has online access (collectively, the "World Wide Web"). If you choose to create a Public Profile, we will collect the Personal Information you supply, such as your first and last name, Institution, title/role, email address, a written description about yourself, and website URL (your "Public Profile Information").
Please remember that any information you disclose in your Public Profile becomes public information and may be searchable and viewable by the entire ProQuest Community and on the open World Wide Web, and therefore you should exercise caution when deciding whether or not to disclose certain information about yourself in your Public Profile, and ProQuest is not responsible for any information you disclose in your Public Profile and the manner in which it may be used by third parties. Your Public Profile will contain the Public Profile Information that you supplied when you created your Public Profile, along with links corresponding to all of your shared content, including but not limited to your shared lists and shared tags as discussed further below (collectively "Shared Platform Content").
By way of example only, some or all portions of your Public Profile, including your Public Profile Information and Shared Platform Content may show up on searches conducted on the open World Wide Web, and may be used to generate links back to the Platform, the ProQuest Sites, your Public Profile and/or ProQuest’s goods and services. Some Public Profile Information is required when creating your Public Profile and other information is optional but in all cases you should think carefully about what information you provide in your Public Profile.
You may have the option of modifying or updating certain information contained in your Public Profile through you settings in your My Research Account. Keep in mind, however, that you may have no access or limited access to certain features otherwise available on the Platform if you choose not to supply certain information in your Public Profile.
Shared List & Tags: Within your My Research Account, you have the option of attaching tags to documents and creating lists of documents found through the Platform. If your Institution has allowed sharing, and you have created a Public Profile you can choose to share, and make publicly available, your tags and lists. Shared public tags may be viewed and searchable on or through the Platform by the ProQuest Community and on the World Wide Web, and ProQuest has the right, but not obligation to review and/or reject tags and may use automated technology to block or refuse certain tags.
In order to share your tags or shared lists, you must first create a Public Profile discussed above. Your shared tags or lists or other Shared Platform Content will become part of your Public Profile and may be publicly viewable and searchable. Keep in mind that if anyone, anywhere in the world, happens to pull up a document that you’ve tagged, or performs a search that matches a shared list that you created, that person will be able to see your tags and/or shared lists—and also your Public Profile. Please review our Public Profile section carefully prior to creating one so that you understand how your information will be used and/or made publicly available.
Ways In Which We May Use And/Or Disclose Your Information
We may also use information about your use of the Platform and your My Research Account to track generally your research habits, including but not limited to databases used, accessed, or saved; keywords and search terms used, and/or your geographic location for marketing or other purposes, such as identifying broad trends, and then send you information about other databases, products, and services as well as offers to purchase our products or services.
Account Inactivity, Expiration and Deactivating Your ProQuest Platform Account
If you have not logged into the Platform or ProQuest Sites through your Institution for a prolonged period of time, your My Research Account may be subject to inactivation, in which case we may, but are not obligated to, notify you by email (using the address you have provided) with instructions on how to maintain your account. My Research accounts may be permanently closed after prolonged inactivity in our sole discretion, in which case you may lose access to all information contained in your my Research Account.
