It’s the time of the year where Serials Solutions completes the mid-year process of retrieving, cleansing, and uploading all the requested e-resource usage reports for 360 Counter assessment service subscribers. This year, we reached a new milestone by handling over 12,000 mid-year reports through the data retrieval service. Report retrieval varied among libraries, with the average number of reports retrieved/cleansed per library just above 52, with the range being between 2 and 296 reports.

This process represents a critical “5th step” in e-resource usage assessment because it eliminates the need for libraries to collect and cleanse reports on their own, so they can focus on higher return activities.

  • Step 1: Libraries acknowledge they need to improve assessment of e-resource usage
  • Step 2: Libraries evaluate assessment services to accomplish step 1
  • Step 3: Libraries select a vendor to simply e-resource usage assessment
  • Step 4: Libraries identify and select the reports they want to receive through Serials Solutions
  • Step 5: Serials Solutions retrieves, cleanses, and uploads reports on behalf of libraries subscribing to its 360 Counter assessment service
  • Step 6: Libraries access and generate reports made available by Serials Solutions
  • Step 7: Libraries analyze the reports, make decisions, and take action based on information acquired in Step 6

This process was made even easier this year for Serials Solutions customers, as a new Data Retrieval Service online form became available that enables easy updates to the reports to be retrieved using the service. You can learn more about this process of data retrieval or the facets of the 360 Counter assessment service at upcoming webinars on August 22, September 5 and September 24.
