Pi2 Acquisition: Q&A with Mark Drinkwater
Last month, we acquired UK-based Pi2, a leader in pharmaceutical information and drug safety solutions. Mark Drinkwater, Pi2’s Director, answered some questions for Dialog users about Pi2 and our plans for a combined future.
Q: What does the name Pi2 mean?
A: Pi2 is pronounced “pi squared.” The “pi” is a twofold acronym: product information for the pharmaceutical industry. The “squared” refers to power: empowering our customers to access the information they need to be successful.
Q: What solutions do you provide for your customers?
A: Pi2’s two key solutions are PinPoint and the Drug Safety Triager. PinPoint is a product literature database system that allows pharmaceutical companies to create a single, comprehensive database of published literature on their own products. PinPoint is designed to address the different requirements of different departments within a company.
The Drug Safety Triager is a workflow tool that streamlines the literature review process that the drug safety department is obliged to perform. When a company subscribes to content from a search service such as ProQuest Dialog, the Drug Safety Triager automatically imports the references and surfaces them into a time-saving workflow. Once reviewed, the references can be automatically output for the regulatory authorities.
Q: How does this acquisition benefit Pi2 and its customers?
A: Pi2 is very excited to be a part of ProQuest! We now have access to the resources, knowledge base and people behind the industry’s leading search service, allowing us to ultimately bring better and more complete solutions to our customers. Many of our customers already use ProQuest Dialog – but for those who don’t, Pi2 will continue to ingest alerts from other aggregators. We intend to remain vendor-neutral.
Q: If a ProQuest Dialog customer is interested in Pi2’s products or services, who should they contact?
A: You can speak with your ProQuest Dialog account manager, or contact us directly by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We look forward to working with you.
