At ProQuest, we’ve spent the last few decades helping libraries use technology to empower researchers. That often means simplifying the transition process when innovative technology is introduced. As you transition to ProQuest Ebook Central, we’re happy to share some best practices for a seamless upgrade to this new and improved ebook platform.
Tip #1: Connect us with the right contact.
In order to provide you with the support that you need, we need to know exactly what your library wants to achieve through this transition. The key to this: having a main contact at your library so we have insight into your unique needs. Not sure who that should be? Let us know and we’ll happily share tips on choosing the best contact for managing this transition project.
Tip #2: Context is a must…
What does your library look like? Are you a member of any consortia? Do you work with any third party vendors? We like to go straight to the most knowledgeable source for answers to questions like these: You! If you come to the table with all of the information that makes your library unique, we’ll be able to tailor the approach to the upgrade to make sure it works best for your unique situation.
Tip #3: ...and goes the longest way when it’s shared!
You’ve got all the information ready to let us know about your library, now share it! We want to know everything, from your researchers’ unique needs to your unique data stories. We may have a few questions along the way so we appreciate your being available to make sure we understand the full story of your library and the community it serves.
Tip #4: Preparation makes perfect.
You know all about ProQuest Ebook Central, but what about your staff and users? Making sure they’re prepared for the upgrade is key as well. You’ll want to ensure they understand the upgrade process and that they’ve had a chance to review the updated features and changes that come with the new platform. We have resources about Ebook Central that can help with this part of the upgrade here and here.
Tip #5: Timing is everything when it comes to upgrading.
We know that you’ve got a lot on your plate. The Ebook Central upgrade process is designed to be easy and cause minimal disruption. Systems will automatically switch from one to the other! You’ll empower your patrons with a ton of benefits that result in a better, more intuitive ebook experience, with no designated downtime for your library.
You’re going to love the new Ebook Central and we can’t wait to help you transition to this new platform. If you have any questions in the meantime, please reach out to your ProQuest representative.
