Research fields are continually growing and evolving. To keep pace, Pivot periodically adds new terms to fit emerging fields of interest to our customers. Our most recent additions cover disciplines within the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and the arts, and include keywords such as Nosocomial Infections, STEM Education, Clean Technology, Carbon Sequestration, Organized Crime, Energy Industry, Synthetic Biology, Sustainable Design, Human Trafficking, Electronic Health Records, Green Buildings, Cloud Computing, and Urban Farming.

These keywords - like all others – are applied by editors to index Pivot funding opportunities. Using years of experience and knowledge, Pivot keyworders regularly review each record in the database with the goal of enabling users to find the most relevant opportunities for their field of study. Records are carefully tagged, with keywords being added or deleted as opportunities are added, changed, or new terms become available.

Users can search using Pivot’s controlled vocabulary in various ways. To search for compatible opportunities in the keyword section of the Pivot Funding Advanced Search, users can begin by typing in a term in the search field and selecting an individual keyword from the choices that pop up. Alternatively, clicking on "browse" launches the keyword tree/hierarchy, then clicking on the arrows on the left to expand a particular subject area to reveal narrower terms under that heading.

Additionally, as of March, users can use keywords listed on any funding opportunity in Pivot to create a search for opportunities by that term. Clicking on any of the keywords in a record initiates a query using that term and institutional search preferences.

More information on how to search Pivot Funding opportunities using keywords can be found on the Pivot website.
