ProQuest Announces Completion of Luthers Werke
Chadwyck-Healey resource provides scholars a single source for indepth study of Martin Luther's writings, 1501-1546 Divided line

ANN ARBOR, Mich., June 14, 2002 - ProQuest Company's (NYSE: PQE) Information and Learning division announced today that it has completed the publication of the first comprehensive electronic edition of the works of Martin Luther. Luthers Werke, a Chadwyck-Healey publication, was designed as a major resource for the study and research of church and medieval history. The complete works of Luther consist of 127 volumes containing 75,000 pages.

Martin Luther was the pivotal figure in the Reformation and a major influence on the development of German language and literature. Luther's works were among the first documents to benefit from the technology of printing in the early 16th century.

The Weimar Edition of Luther's works is an authoritative source for theologians, historians, linguists, and literary critics carrying out research into Luther's life and work. The complete collection of Luther's writings is one of the largest editions of any individual author ever to have been created.

Users can now search the electronic edition for any terms and phrases used by Luther. For the first time in an electronic resource, students will be able to follow Luther's central theological ideas, trace his statements on historical events, gain insights into German society during a major period of transition from the middle ages to the modern era or obtain comprehensive material on Luther's contacts with, and opinions about, contemporary personalities and institutions, such as the Pope, the Church and the Emperor.

Barbara Bultmann, Publisher at ProQuest said, "The completion of this project is a major milestone. The electronic version of Luther is an exceptionally valuable and powerful tool and will enhance research on Luther's writing and the context in which he worked."

Other medieval and church history resources available from ProQuest Information and Learning include Patrologia Latina Database, the philosophical and theological writings of the 19th-century scholar and priest, Jacques-Paul Migne and also the Acta Sanctorum Database, which contains key information on the lives of the saints and every aspect of life from the beginning of the Christian era to the end of the sixteenth-century.
