ProQuest Releases eLibrary Curriculum Edition
Expanded reference and curriculum content designed specifically for K-12 schools and libraries come together in single product Divided line

ANN ARBOR, Mich., October 27, 2003 - ProQuest Information and Learning has released eLibrary Curriculum Edition™. The new curriculum and reference resource delivers one of the largest collections of periodical and digital media content designed specifically for secondary schools and libraries. ProQuest Information and Learning creates and distributes databases to libraries and educational institutions worldwide.

eLibrary Curriculum Edition meets a wide range of school research and curriculum needs. A newly updated user interface makes research easy. Students find the answers they need from more than 2,000 full-text magazines, newspapers, reference books and transcripts - plus thousands of pictures, maps, web links, and audio/video files.

New content sources and features help create a powerful curriculum support tool for English Language Arts, Social Studies, and more. These elements make up eLibrary Curriculum Edition:

  • ProQuest Learning: LiteratureTM offers a comprehensive, integrated literary resource for 150,000-plus original full-text works of poetry, prose, and drama; more than 1,300 author biographies; and more than 11,000 articles, essays, reviews and contemporary criticism; as well as multimedia subject files, study units, and study guides.
  • History Study CenterTM provides more than 25,000 historical sources, both primary and secondary, covering ancient to modern US and world history, including historical maps and images, historical audio/video clips, study units, and study guides.
  • eLibrary general reference can be searched together with these resources, or each may be searched separately. General reference holds more than 1,600 full-text periodicals and 230-plus newspapers and newswires, 5,000 historic and modern maps, 500,000 images and photos, and 17,000 audio/video clips.

eLibrary's strong searching capabilities strengthen students' technology skills. Using natural language or Boolean search, students can type a question, phrase or keyword, executing searches across seven different media types and multiple databases with a single query. Students can search or browse by topic or publication. They can sort results by relevance, date, file size, Lexile reading level, publication or source. With one easy step, they can create marked lists or view, print, or email any document.

Other features include:

  • Relevant, appropriate instructional material is quickly available using educator-created BookCarts with persistent links to eLibrary content - to create reading lists, topic pages, or lesson plans - or select from more than 150 pre-built BookCarts to jump-start curriculum support with standards-aligned content.
  • Resources and tools to meet NCLB requirements for purchase using funds such as Title II-D and IV-B.

ProQuest offers product support materials and workshops to help schools effectively integrate eLibrary resources into the curriculum. Most materials are included as part of an annual subscription. Custom programs for professional development, tailored to school and district needs, are also available. Educator Curriculum Guides show correlation and use of the programs in a standards-based environment. Standards-Based Learning Activities (SBLA) provide teachers with specific standards-based lesson plan examples. Professional training programs help teachers integrate BookCart technology into day-to-day classroom use.
