ProQuest Introduces the MLA Module for Literature Online™
Integrated resource is unique and powerful tool for scholars and students Divided line

ANN ARBOR, Mich., April 6, 2005 - ProQuest Information and Learning has introduced the MLA Module for Literature Online. This fully integrated database provides a new look and powerful functionality to the renowned Modern Language Association (MLA) International Bibliography—making millions of records instantly accessible and fully searchable online, along with links to full text. ProQuest Information and Learning, a unit of ProQuest Company, is an electronic publisher of content for libraries and educational institutions worldwide

Already offered by ProQuest as a standalone research tool, MLA is even more powerful when paired with Literature Online.  An index to books and articles on modern languages and literatures, linguistics, folklore, and related topics, MLA covers literature from throughout the world.  It covers more than 4,400 academic journals, indexing more than 65,000 books and articles annually for a total of more than 1.6 million records.

Literature Online brings a vast array of full-text primary works (more than 350,000), criticism, and reference materials to the desktop.  It is used by all 10 of the National Research Council’s top-rated literature programs.

From a single interface, Literature Online and its MLA module provide users with:

  • Single-point searching of the two premier literature indexes for research and teaching, MLA International Bibliography and the Modern Humanities Research Association’s Annual Bibliography of English Language & Literature (ABELL).  MLA offers working papers, conference proceedings, reference works, and literature in non-English languages; ABELL includes critical editions of literary works, book reviews, and essay collections
  • Immediate access from citations in both indexes to articles from 150 full-text journals in Literature Online
  • Access to more full-text articles via OpenURL and JSTOR links
  • Integration with the extensive library of primary works, criticism, reference sources and multimedia content in Literature Online

Even when integrated with Literature Online, the MLA module can be accessed separately when desired.  Its rich resources include:

  • Complete coverage of all date ranges, currently 1963-2004
  • Searching of all MLA specialist index fields through 29 fields and limiters
  • Easy-to-browse MLA thesaurus and descriptors for specialist index fields
  • Additional browseable indexes (author, journal name, and more)
  • Ability to save searches, access search history, and create a marked list
  • Durable URLs for each record in OpenURL format
  • Peer review limiters
  • Results sorting in either chronological or reverse-chronological order
  • Citation software support, so users can export citations to bibliographic programs

Users can search MLA or ABELL individually or cross-search them by keyword, title keyword, subject (includes all MLA subject terms), author/reviewer, publication details (including MLA Series and Publisher fields), journal, and publication year.  Users can also specify all citations or limit them to books, reviews, or literary works.
