ANN ARBOR, Mich., January 18, 2007 - ProQuest Information and Learning has signed an agreement to distribute The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News, The Detroit News, and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin newspapers through ProQuest's award-winning online interface. These newspapers significantly expand the local and regional news content available through ProQuest. "ProQuest continues to expand its newspaper offerings so that libraries can meet the needs of nearly any patron. Newspapers connect people to the world around them; to historical events; and to what is happening at home, wherever that may be," said Rod Gauvin, senior vice president, ProQuest Information and Learning. "Our relationships with these publishers are important because of the exceptional content they bring to ProQuest." These agreements allow ProQuest to distribute the newspaper content electronically to educational institutions and libraries around the world. ProQuest Newsstand will contain coverage of The Philadelphia Inquirer from 1981-present, and of Philadelphia Daily News from 1978-present. Founded in 1829, The Philadelphia Inquirer is the 3rd oldest surviving paper in the U.S., and is the 11th largest paper in the US with daily circulation of nearly 700,000. Philadelphia Daily News, founded in 1925, is a tabloid-style morning paper with daily circulation of 120,000. ProQuest Newsstand now also includes The Detroit News and The Honolulu Star-Bulletin. The Detroit News is the second largest weekday newspaper in Michigan, with daily circulation of more than 200,000. The Honolulu Star-Bulletin is the oldest continuously published daily newspaper in Hawaii. All four titles are cross-searchable with all ProQuest Newsstand titles, including The Wall Street Journal. Providing more local, regional, and national content is part of the ProQuest strategy to create a total newspaper solution for libraries, serving all their news needs through a single source. The vast ProQuest news content pool includes 14 million digital pages of historical archives of major U.S. dailies. Its extensive current collection includes more than 450 full-text newspapers from around the world. ProQuest's newspaper solutions also include such unique delivery systems as NewspaperDirect, which allows libraries to get direct access to more than 400 international and domestic dailies in full-page format.
