Drawings of Robert and James Adam in Sir John Soane's Museum

Robert Adam, the greatest architect of the eighteenth century, was equally brilliant as a decorator and furniture designer. A magnificent collection of over 10,000 of his drawings of architecture, interiors, ceilings, furniture, woodwork, metalwork and textiles has been in Sir John Soane's Museum since 1833.
With the delicate pastel shades of the hand-coloured drawings particularly susceptible to wear and light, strict controls had to be imposed on their usage. Publication of this microfilm edition means researchers and students can now browse through the whole collection of Adam drawings without restriction. Compiled by Walter L.
