American Culture Series II (ACSII), 1493-1875

The 5,600 titles in the Series II collection represent what are considered to be fundamental research materials in interdisciplinary American Studies curricula. This larger collection also expands the pre-1806 offerings of ACS I and extends the series through 1875. Purchase ACS I separately to obtain the complete 643-reel ACS collection.
Selected and compiled in the mid-1950s by the Committee on Microfilm Bibliography of the American Studies Association, the series includes information on American education, religion, pacifism, feminism, the city, the history of science, and many other subjects of importance to American historiography.
The bibliography of pre-1876 books and pamphlets on which this collection is based was edited by David R. Weimer and is offered free with the American Culture Series II. Categorized by discipline for optimum research use, the collection is available in its entirety or in 12 separate units:
"Philosophy, Psychology and Religion" is divided into these subsections: Theological, Philosophical and Psychological Thought; Biography; Religious Institutions, Movements and Sects; History and Activities; and Miscellaneous Works. Works include those of Ethan Allen, Hosea Ballou, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Mary Baker Eddy, Jonathan Edwards, Increase Mather, Joseph Smith, and many others.
In Literature students can explore the variety of native American humor in works such as The Nasby Papers and Bill Arp: So Called, as well as little-known works of fiction, poetry, drama, biography, essays, oratories, and literary criticism.
The Sciences includes works on astronomy, botany, chemistry, geography, mathematics, medicine, physics, and zoology.
The other segments in American Culture Series II offer the same thoughtful selection of materials for both generalists and specialists, and the series as a whole is considered to be one of the finest selections available on American culture.
