These collections of natural history specimens were made by Sir Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander, the naturalists on Captain James Cook's first voyage round the world. Banks employed the artist Sydney Parkinson to make detailed watercolour drawings of the animals and plants collected.

Specimens and drawings from Australia, Brazil, Java, Madeira, New Zealand, Society Islands and Tierra del Fuego are included in this unusual microfiche collection which contains around 1,000 botanical specimens, over 300 zoological drawings, both watercolour and pencil, and over 1,500 botanical drawings and related engravings.
