PRESS RELEASES, 1934-1978 The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is one of the U.S. government's most important and complex agencies. It has evolved into its present powerful form through a series of predecessor agencies beginning with the creation of the Federal Housing Agency in 1934.
