Listener, 1929 - 1991

After a controversial birth in 1929, The Listener soon became arguably the most important cultural weekly in the United Kingdom drawing together the worlds of literature, art and music with radio and television. One reason for its success was the extraordinary range and quality of its contributors illustrated by the 50th anniversary issue which reprinted pieces from George Bernard Shaw, Ed Murrow, Dylan Thomas, Max Beerbohm, J. K. Galbraith, Lord Clark, Wyndham Lewis and J. B. Priestley.
