New England Farmer and Horticultural Journal, 1822 - 1846

The New England Farmer was one of the earliest agricultural journals established in the United States and the first and foremost in New England. It is a valuable source of information on the nature of agriculture and society in early nineteenth-century New England, a period of transition from the traditions of home production and processing to the requirements of commercial agriculture. Its coverage of issues such as the changing economy, fashion, temperance and moral reform is of value to social historians in general.
