Founded in 1881, the Zydowski Instytut Historyczny, or ZIH, has become an important repository of cultural artifacts from the former Jewish communities of Poland and the adjacent regions.

This microfilm collection offers unprecedented access to rare newspapers, periodicals, and books from the ZIH archives. Topics covered include theology, history, demographic information, daily life, and more. The ZIH holds the only known extant copies of many of the titles in the collection, and most have never been filmed before.

The titles were published in what are now the modern states of Poland, Austria, Germany, Ukraine, Hungary, Turkey, Lithuania, Russia, Belarus, and the Czech and Slovak Republics

Three subsets of the collection are available: Polish, German, and Yiddish and Hebrew publications. For a list of titles in these subsets, please click here.
