This database is the leading specialized index to periodicals for the general, undergraduate, and advanced study of music.

The International Index to Music Periodicals (IIMP) is the only electronic index with abstracts to current music periodicals. New journals are added with the advice of the IIMP Advisory Board.

The database contains over 600,000 records, with complete runs of over ten important titles, such as the Journal of the American Musicological Society and Notes. IIMP provides both current and retrospective coverage. IIMP offers the most extensive backfile available electronically, with over 235,000 records from 1874 to 1996. 

Indexed titles cover both scholarly and popular periodicals in the areas of classical music, opera, jazz, popular music and pop culture, music education, musicology, music theory, and many others. There is particularly strong coverage of performance, music education, and jazz.

In addition, IIMP offers OpenURL and Z39.50 compliancy, as well as support of citation management software for easy exporting of results. Free MARC records are also included.

IIMP offers hard-coded links, without the use of a link resolver, to a library’s Project Muse titles or the JSTOR Music Collection.

New! IIMP may now be cross-searched with the International Index to Performing Arts (IIPA), which includes many important titles to music researchers.  IIPA covers musical theatre and film music, as well as offers the complete picture of research for many composers, performers, and works.  The cross-searching is available through a portal site, Music and Performing Arts Online, which is available for free for subscribers of both resources.
