Periodicals Archive Online

A major electronic archive of over 700 digitized, full-image journal articles, Periodicals Archive Online (formerly PCI Full Text™) offers unprecedented access to international, scholarly literature in the humanities and social sciences disciplines from 1802 to 2000.
Periodicals Archive Online, with over 15 million pages and 3 million articles, offers institutions a virtual library and a permanent archive of retrospective leading academic journals for 37 disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. As well as core academic journals, recent collections include popular academic newsstand titles such as The New Statesman (1913-2000), The Spectator (1828-2000) and The New Leader (1924-2000). Journals in Periodicals Archive Online are digitized from volume 1, issue 1. Some 20 percent of the journals are in non-English languages, mirroring the broad international scope of Periodicals Archive Online. The platform for Periodicals Archive Online, with its fast search engine, provides powerful and easy searching across the vast content.
Nine multidisciplinary, full-text journal collections are available, with a tenth collection in progress. Unique foreign language coverage is available in each collection. A collection of key Spanish-language titles is available separately, as well as themed collections covering literature, history, and philosophy & religion. Searchable full-text with hit term highlighting is featured in all collections making it straightforward to find your keyword search terms across large numbers of pages.
Periodicals Archive Online expands research opportunities and is available remotely at any time. It also serves as a permanent archive, with access to the full contents of every title, from cover to cover, thus allowing an institution to safely send fragile and space-consuming journal runs to storage facilities.
Enhanced functionality includes free MARC records, Z39.50 support for federated searching, OpenURL compliancy, citation software support, and COUNTER-compliant usage statistics. A Quick Search is featured on the Home page and on every page of the service for convenient searching for any level of user. Sophisticated post-search results filtering and sorting enhance the user's ability to quickly get to the right results. Links to JSTOR and Project Muse are also available. The My Archive feature allows every user to save searches, save records, and take notes between sessions, allowing each user to create his or her own research area.
Using Periodicals Archive Online in conjunction with Periodicals Index Online allows users both to perform a comprehensive survey of the scholarship on a particular topic and to link seamlessly to a wealth of relevant full-text content.
