March 2012 Release

Connect & Customize

  • Use preferences in My Research to set up a start page, preferred search mode, and default databases upon login to My Research accounts.
  • Create named shortcuts to combinations of frequently used databases (e.g. My Social Sciences Research), and copy links for embedding externally or including in your favorite bookmarks.

Search & Discover

  • Enter and view full, larger queries, such as those created using our thesaurus look-up tools via the expanded search box.
  • See criteria used for defining what constitutes "peer reviewed" or "scholarly journal" in basic search, with useful pop-up icons available below the basic search box.
  • Apply different search limits (e.g. full text or peer reviewed) when conducting "building block" searches using sets. Maintain database context of original search when a set is referenced as part of a new search.
  • Review your search results with improved search term highlighting to provide visual cues in to the relevance and importance of retrieved documents.

Download & Report

  • Review output documents that are more streamlined with improved styling. Specify including full text or outbound links when customizing formats.

Analyze & Store

  • Include full search strategies and databases used in your document output for documentation on how results were derived.

New for Consortia Customers

  • Authenticated consortia customers with shared IP account configuration now have direct access.

New Resources

  • Now available for subscription, World News Connection®—an extensive collection of translated and English-language news and information sources from around the world. With its superb focus on non-US media sources, World News Connection quickly informs researchers what’s happening "on the ground" of a specific country or region. Contact your ProQuest account representative to learn more.

Additional Improvements

  • MEDLINE MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) thesaurus enhanced for easier discovery of related terms, as well as new ones.
  • RSS feed article links for EZProxy users.
  • Linking out to RefWorks/proxy server resolved.
  • Dissertation author field corrected to ensure the author, not advisor is displayed in the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) database.

Connect & Customize

Customization of views for search results:

  • Librarians can use the ProQuest Administrator Module to set the default view for search results in their databases to either ‘Brief’ or ‘Detailed’
  • Similarly, in My Research users can choose a default view that's either a brief or detailed view of search results

Customization of homepage images:

  • More images are now available for Health & Medicine subject/industry customization by librarians via the ProQuest Administrator Module

Search & Discover

  • Look up terms feature is more accessible, helping users to identify key information such as authors, publications, and subjects
  • The advanced search form is improved so search limits are more evident to researchers
  • The Education level search field (LV) has been updated for ERIC
  • A new control for showing/hiding details of recent searches has been added
  • Actions are now available via mouse hover for each set
  • The list of recent searches is enhanced so each one is displayed on its own row. Users can click the 'Show all details' control to see more or less detail about each search or set their default view in My ProQuest.
  • For a cleaner view, the row of icons shown below is now a dropdown under the Actions column
  • Select Databases page: New database ID and title list links are available (shown below)

Download & Report

  • ‘Save as file’ and ‘Export to’ options via Export/Save have been simplified into a single list
  • Custom format selections persist within a session

Save & Track

Alerts and RSS feeds:

  • RSS Feeds now include full text links and are compatible with a wider variety of RSS readers and services

Additional Enhancements

Document View:

  • The light blue tool bar now expands the width of the page
  • Other formats section now displays on the right side of the page
  • Citation information font has increased
  • ‘Show all’/’Hide all’ links have been replaced with + and – icons
  • Document section headings have increased in size

  • Via the ProQuest Administrator Module, libraries can create and embed widgets into the product interface, .e.g. chat widget to the librarian on staff
  • Library staff can easily add custom links on the site that can appear on the login and throughout the product, e.g. email to the librarian on staff

  • From Advanced Search, browse through more of our resources and discover new controlled vocabulary terms using our newly redesigned Thesaurus feature
  • From Advanced Search, add longer thesaurus searches that expand for easier review
  • From Advanced Search, 'View detail' for non-searchable field codes while searching across multiple databases
  • Turn on/off preferences such as: US/UK spellings, Plurals/Adjectives, Auto Complete in your My Research or via ProQuest Administrative Module by the library
  • Additional enhancements:
    • New single session sign in
    • New 'Browse' at the cross-search level, including a non-periodical browse
    • Field names are bold within the Indexing of results, and standardized: case, punctuation, etc.
    • More is visible in optimized PDFs
    • 'ALL' in Advanced Search dropdown menu replaces previous 'CABS' acronym

Specify document output with custom formatting to suit research needs:

  • Download results in predefined formats or new 'Custom format' (under ‘Save as file’)
  • Custom Format option allows output to be customize based on the fields present in the documents selected
  • Custom reports are generated with the results and fields selected

Analyze & Store

Perform analysis more effectively and efficiently:

  • 'Brief' and 'Detailed' views of database results
  • From results 'Preview', view your highlighted keywords in context
  • View the number of items 'Cited by' and 'References' from the more database results
  • To store links results, sign into in My Research and add results to folders to access later
