ProQuest Partners with Naxos to Provide First Music Audio Files within a Music Reference Database
ANN ARBOR, Mich., March 21, 2005 -- ProQuest Information and Learning announced today a partnership with Naxos, premier provider of music sound recordings on the web, to offer the first integration of music sound files within a music reference database. The agreement will allow mutual users of Naxos Music Library and Chadwyck-HealeyTM International Index to Music Periodicals (IIMP) to access sound recordings of key music, composers, or artists referenced or reviewed in the IIMP abstracts and articles.

"We are pleased to partner with Naxos to make this impressive collection of music available as part of Chadwyck-Healey's growing portfolio of performing arts and film products," says Mary Sauer-Games, vice president of publishing. "By linking Naxos Music Library with the depth and breadth of coverage available in International Index to Music Periodicals, we continue to provide an unrivaled resource for music research."

Users will be able to access critical periodical content from IIMP and go directly into Naxos Music Library to listen to the music, composer, or artist referenced or reviewed in the IIMP abstracts and articles. Users of both Naxos and IIMP can access more than 130,000 tracks (from 8,800 CDs), the entire Naxos and Marco Polo catalogues, plus other licensed independent labels.  Entire CDs and individual tracks are available. In addition ProQuest is licensing composer information, glossary, pronunciation guide, music fundamental terms (definitions), and opera synopses from Naxos.

IIMP offers researchers detailed indexing and abstracts for over 560,000 articles from the most important music journals across the globe. Covering all types of music, from rock and rap to classical and jazz, and including scholarly and educational journals as well as popular music magazines, IIMP gives scholars, students, and media industry professionals a single, comprehensive source for music research at all levels.

IIMP indexes more than 400 international music periodicals including 30 important titles from first issue to current. The full-text version of this resource expands access by offering over 100 journals with searchable full-text and page images and 11 full-run titles. Researchers can access over a half million records and the largest backfile available for music periodicals – over 300,000 records from 1874 to 1996.
