New ProQuest Program Supports Library Education
Students hone search skills on research tools integral to professional librarianship
ANN ARBOR, Mich., June 23, 2006 -- ProQuest Information and Learning launched a new service for library schools that will make the company's acclaimed reference tools available to information science students at no charge during the school term. The program is aimed at supporting library education, allowing students to learn essential search skills on the reference tools they are likely to encounter after graduation.

"This program solves a dilemma that’s very common in library schools:  how to teach the students the best practices of premium database searching on a limited budget," said David "Skip" Prichard, President of ProQuest Information and Learning.  “This is certainly consistent with ProQuest’s long history of support for the library industry.  We’re also eager for the feedback we’ll get from the next-generation of librarians.  Imagine the opportunities this presents for us to evolve our products over time.”

All North American library schools are eligible for free school term access to such popular ProQuest databases as ABI/INFORM®, Research Library, National Newspapers, ProQuest Historical Newspapers™, Literature Online, eLibrary, SIRS, and Black Studies Center.  The free subscriptions will be available to library school students only and not available campus-wide.

Library schools that reside on a campus holding four or more ProQuest databases will receive extra benefits from the program.    They will also receive a classroom sampler of microfilm newspaper/research collections, electronic versions of film subject catalogs and quarterly webinars that will connect students directly with product experts.

Registration for the program is available now for the 2006-07 school year.  For more information, visit http://www.il.proquest.com/division/forms/libraryprogram.shtml
