This collection focuses chiefly on the engineering, opening, and operation of the Cape Cod Canal, and the active interest and participation by New York financier August Belmont, Jr. (1853-1924). Included are letters, charts, reports, and telegrams to and from Secretary of War Newton D. Baker, Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels, Attorney-General Harry M. Daugherty, President Warren G. Harding, and congressmen and senators.
Also included are Congressional documents, depositions, records of litigation, news clippings, and financial accounts of Canal construction and operation.
Titles from the Massachusetts Historical Society Collections may be purchased by individual reel.
Whether the change involves a print-to-electronic transition or a space reclamation project, there are bound to be questions, concerns and even resistance.
“These testimonies take the historical stories out of the realm of history and place them in the realm of the human.”
