Almost 800 previously unpublished finding aids on microfiche provide access to the contents of the most important collections of the Archives Nationales de Paris. The finding aids are backed by a specially created printed catalogue and index including a bibliography of research guides and an introduction to the history and use of the Archives Nationales.

Finding aids are the key both to the contents of an archive or manuscript collection and to locating documents within it. Most are in the form of unpublished typescripts or card indexes prepared by archivists. The finding aids to the Archives Nationales reproduced in this edition are almost all unpublished and have been carefully chosen for their value to researchers. All have been checked and where necessary amended or updated before being filmed.

The printed user's guide consisting of a single catalogue and index has been designed to give researchers quick and easy access to the finding aids. The index lists each one by name of collection, names of persons appearing there, subject and institutional origin thereby directing users to all collections with material in their field of interest.

Les Inventaires des Archives Nationales de Paris is available as a complete set, including supplement, or in three separate sections following the classifications of the Archives Nationales, and in two subject sub-sections. The user's guide is supplied free with each order.
