The world's largest shelflist, available complete or in selected subject areas, has become an essential tool for librarians--from large academic to smaller specialized libraries. The LC Shelflist is an unmatched resource for collection development and provides a convenient, time-saving means for identifying a vast universe of titles available in any subject. Also featured are many pre-1968 and non-Roman titles not in ordinary bibliographic sources.
Catalogers use the LC Shelflist and its complete bibliographic information to simplify the task of cataloging and as a current source for verification of headings and classifications. It is also valuable for libraries using Dewey classification.
Interlibrary loan requests can be met with greater efficiency using the LC Shelflist, since researchers can turn to the list as a starting point to identify titles they need. By scanning a class range within the list, librarians can also compile a bibliography for a faculty member or student on any topic requested much more rapidly.
Special libraries can purchase the LC Shelflist in any of the 46 separate subject headings segments available. The collection is updated through 1979.
