After a controversial birth in 1929, The Listener soon became arguably the most important cultural weekly in the United Kingdom, drawing together the worlds of literature, art, and music with radio and television. One reason for its success was the extraordinary range and quality of its contributors illustrated by the fiftieth anniversary issue which reprinted pieces from George Bernard Shaw, Edward R. Murrow, Dylan Thomas, Max Beerbohm, J. K. Galbraith, Lord Clark, Wyndham Lewis, and J. B. Priestley.

The microform edition provides libraries with a space-saving means of making a complete run of this influential publication available to readers.
