The longest-running public affairs program on television--and certainly one of the most prestigious--is NBC News' Meet the Press. The famous and infamous have appeared each week for three decades to answer the questions of America's press corps about their part in national and world affairs.

Transcripts of these absorbing programs, beginning with the first broadcast in 1957, are available through this microfiche collection. Researchers in journalism, communications, political science, and history will find these full-text transcripts to be an invaluable resource.

These live and unrehearsed interviews provide a vivid means of recapturing the perspectives news personalities held on topics in years past. And because the interviews were live, they were humorous, and at times sprinkled liberally with controversial statements.

Each microfiche in the set contains one complete transcript. For fast retrieval, a chronology of programs is included for each calendar year. The cumulating chronology, which is also on microfiche, lists the programs by dates and provides the interviewees' names and titles.

The complete backfile collection includes five three-ring vinyl binders with microfiche storage pages.

  • Content Type: Chronology of programs on microfiche included for each year.
