Overview

This collection includes historical newspapers from Russia and abroad. The larger collection presently includes four newspaper subsets covering significant periods of Soviet history:

  • Newspapers from Imperial Russia: These titles cover the years 1734-1917, the period when Russia was an imperial power. Click here for a list of titles.
  • Newspapers from the Era of the Russian Revolution and Russian Civil War: Encompassing the years 1901-1922, these titles were published in various cities, both within the Russian Empire and abroad. Click here for a list of titles.
  • Newspapers from the Second World War Held at Russian Libraries: Covering the years 1936-1948, these papers also were published in various cities. Click here for a list of titles.
  • The Soviet Press after the Second World War: Covering 1946-1989, this collection contains essential information on the period during which the fledgling Soviet Union developed into a global superpower despite social and political crises. Click here for a title list.

Extensive backfiles, as well as standing order subscriptions, are available for six of the titles within this subset: Komsomol'skaia Pravda; Krasnaia zvezda; Literaturnaia gazeta; Pravda; Trud; and Uchitel'skaia gazeta (all published in Moscow; see title list for dates included in the subset).

Individual titles from the Lenin Library also are available.
