Overview

This collection brings together materials from the Smith family, descended from William and Abigail Smith of Medford, Massachusetts, and the Townsend family, descended from Andrew Townsend of Lynn, Massachusetts. Included are letters of Loyalist Isaac Smith, Jr. during his exile in England.

There are numerous letters of Abigail (Smith) Adams, wife of President John Adams, as well, and letters and business papers of Dr. David Townsend and his son, Solomon Davis Townsend.
