Overview

A.S.W. Rosenbach, an avid collector of rare books and manuscripts, assembled one of the great collections of early American books for children, and his bibliography of children’s works in the early republic is considered a fundamental tool for building such a collection. ProQuest is pleased to present a microfiche collection which reproduces most of the works on his list, in their original American editions.

Among the 680 titles reproduced are Travels of Baron Munchausen, History of Tom Thumb, Babes in the Wood, The Book of Martyrs, Death and Burial of Cock Robin, The Remarkable History of Tom Jones, The House That Jack Built, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Life of General Washington, New England Psalter, Isaac Watts’ Divine Songs for Children, Noah Webster’s American Spelling Book and Dictionary of the English Language, and many more.
