Overview

Aquatints, engravings, etchings, linocuts, lithographs, mezzotints, photographs, screenprints, woodcuts -- reproduced on microfiche with a mass of information about their creators from the fifteenth century to the present day.

A wide-ranging clippings and ephemera file on more than 15,000 printmakers, illustrators, and photographers, the Print File is one of the richest and most exciting collections for the study of printmaking from all ages, used as a reference source for nearly eighty years by art historians, curators, collectors, and picture researchers as well as general library users.

The contents of each artist's file vary and may include exhibition brochures and small catalogues, gallery announcements, reviews, obituaries, magazine articles as well as reproduction and original prints. Much of the information found quickly in these files can only be traced elsewhere with difficulty, if at all. Most of the clippings have been sourced, further enhancing their value to scholars and researchers.

"For all those who have turned to the clipping files, whether art historian, dealer, collector or interested student of printmaking, they have offered a wealth of immediate information and a productive source of leads for further research and investigation."
Roberta Waddell, Curator of Prints, The Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Division of Arts, Prints and Photographs, The New York Public Library
