Overview

During the early 1950’s, the trial of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for espionage and treason riveted the nation. The Rosenbergs were accused of passing nuclear secrets to the Communist government of the Soviet Union.

This microfilm collection includes the United States Supreme Court transcripts, the Rosenberg and Sobell Court of Appeals Briefs and the U.S. Supreme Court briefs. There are also copies of the applications for judicial clemency and motions for reduction of sentences, as well as pages pertaining to an attempt for a re-trial on the grounds of newly discovered evidence. The work of Judge Irving Kaufman and attorneys Emanuel Hirsh Bloch and William P. Rogers is represented. Though this collection is by no means a complete record of all motions and proceedings for this trial, it nevertheless provides valuable insights into one of the most famous cases in U. S. history.
