Part III: Asia, 1940-1945 The importance of the Confidential Print for Asia, 1940-1945, is without parallel and to date there has been no published documentary source on Britain's role in the origins and course of the Pacific War. The present series covers East Asia quite broadly until the outbreak of the Pacific War, after which it focuses largely on China until victory in 1945. Then, partly because Britain was responsible for taking the Japanese surrender in Southeast Asia, the scope again broadens.
