Overview

For years, Monarch Notes have served as excellent supplements to the actual texts of the world's great literature. These carefully crafted study guides allow students to gain additional insight and develop a deeper understanding of a particular work.

Libraries can now order Monarch Notes on microfiche and avoid many of the problems inherent in keeping a collection on paper, such as high rates of pilferage and wear and tear on the material.

Each Monarch Notes issue contains:

  • a concise biography of the author, including a summary of all works, influences on his writing, and a comprehensive picture of the intellectual climate in which he or she lived
  • a summary and critical analysis of the work's structure, including a thorough examination of characters
  • review questions with detailed answers
  • annotated bibliographies
  • suggested topics for papers

This collection consists of 200 contemporary and classical works of world literature. Authors include, among others:

  • Austen
  • Bronte
  • Conrad
  • Defoe
  • Dickens
  • Dostoyevsky
  • Faulkner
  • Freud
  • Goldsmith
  • Hardy
  • Hawthorne
  • Hemingway
  • Hesse
  • Homer
  • James
  • Kafka
  • Melville
  • O'Neill
  • Salinger
  • Shakespeare
  • Shaw
  • Sophocles
  • Tolstoy
  • Twain

These study guides will be a valuable addition to any library as an effective means of encouraging students to become involved in great literature.
