Part 3: Office Correspondence, 1879-1894 relates chiefly to philanthropy and family matters. Topics include requests for financial support for religious organizations, temperance work, educational institutions, and individuals. Correspondence with family members, friends, and staff members deals with a wide range of topics including business matters and real estate. Rockefeller Letterbooks at the Rockefeller Archive Center, compiled by the Rockefeller Archive Center staff, serves as a guide to the 394 letterbook volumes at the center. As an index to the outgoing correspondence, it is useful for determining if and when responses were sent or whether Rockefeller had initiated an exchange. The letterbooks themselves are in 18 series and span the period 1867-1918.
