Overview

A writer and an activist who played a vital role in the abolition movement and in the struggle for women‘s rights, Child knew and corresponded with some of the most prominent people of her day. Approximately 2,600 letters have been collected for inclusion in this microfiche program. The printed guide contains an introductory essay on Child, a description of the editorial procedures and a detailed name, place and subject index. Her letters include many historically prominent addressees, such as John Brown, William Cullen Bryant, Frederick Douglass, Margaret Fuller, William Lloyd Garrison, Angelina Grimke, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone and Charles Sumner.
