SIRS Discoverer is a general reference database for elementary and middle school learners, researchers, and educators covering curriculum areas content sets such as reading, language arts, current events, science, social studies, history, health and technology. Now aligned to Common Core Standards, all content is 100% full text, editorially-selected and indexed from over 2,200 reliable, high-quality domestic and international newspapers, magazines, and government documents. The collection includes 9,000 integrated educational weblinks, and reference materials such as the Compton’s by Britannica encyclopedia and World Almanac for Kids.

SIRS Discoverer supports differentiated instruction by providing Lexile scores, editorially-assigned reading levels, article read-aloud and language translation, age-appropriate article summaries, automatically generated citations, and a critical thinking skills tutor.  Teacher and student materials are aligned with curriculum subject areas, research topics and homework help. User-friendly special database features such as “Nonfiction Books,” “Science Fair Explorer,” “Skills Discoverer,” “Spotlight of the Month,” “Country Facts,” “Biographies,” and “Activities” further support the curriculum, while engaging students as they identify content needed for research, homework and classwork.

More than 67,000 graphics, photos, maps, and charts are available, connected to associated articles. Images can be accessed via keyword or within the “Pictures” feature. Thousands of inline thumbnails assist researchers, and create context for article text. A pull-out collection includes over 7,000 maps, including all 50 United States, the provinces and territories of Canada, and nations and regions of the world (Europe, Persian Gulf, Czech Republic, the Baltics, and world time zones). U.S. historical, world historical, and outline maps are also available.

SIRS Discoverer also offers supplemental curriculum and learning materials, including an educator's guide, middle- and elementary-level student workbooks, citation guidelines, research strategy worksheets, and more.
