Overview

Statistical publications are often difficult to acquire. ProQuest has done the work for libraries by gathering key documents and making them available on microfiche. Libraries can purchase the documents they need on subscription.

The Statistics Canada Microfiche Collection is the easiest way to ensure that your library has the current publications of Statistics Canada including the latest Census of Canada releases. All publications, including dailies and weeklies, are reissued on microfiche within one month of publication.

The ProQuest microfiche collection of Statistics Canada documents is based on the old catalogued series of statistical documents. Non-statistical publications from Statistics Canada are included in our Microlog microfiche collections. All of these publications are cited in the online Canadian Research Index.

Statistics Canada is the authoritative source of data on industries, trade, employment, population and social affairs. Statistics Canada data are an essential tool for research on Canada and Canadian affairs. ProQuest is an authorized distributor of Statistics Canada’s information.

This collection offers several important advantages for libraries:

  • Statistics Canada microfiche save 95% of the space required for paper copies
  • Microfiche is a cost-effective way to ensure you have a complete collection of documents issued on paper
  • ProQuest staff print Internet documents for preservation on microfiche to ensure these documents will always be available
  • The collection includes publications issued by Statistics Canada since the 1851 Census
  • Starting in 1996 the microfiched publications are cited in the online Canadian Research Index

The following is a more complete breakdown of Statistics Canada Publications  available from the Government Documents collection:

  • Statistics Canada Microfiche Collection: based on the old catalogued series of statistical documents. Non-statistical publications from Statistics Canada are included in our Microlog microfiche collections. All of these publications are cited in the Canadian Research Index.
  • Special Feature: use the detailed list of contents of the Statistics Canada Microfiche Collection as a quick way to find documents. The list is cumulative so it can be used as an index to the Collection. This list is available only by purchasing microfiche copies of the documents.
  • Statistics Canada Backfile Collection (1850 to date): collection comprises all publications originally issued in hard copy by Statistics Canada (with the exception of certain titles not available for filming). The flexibility of microfiche allows the Collection to be made available to suit a library’s needs.
  • Statistical monographs and serials: statistical monographs and serials from other federal and provincial government agencies, businesses and associations are available as the Microlog Statistics Collection.

  • Content Type: Online index available via subscription to the Canadian Research Index (CRI)
  • MARC Records: Yes
