Abstract

Mentor teachers help create one of the most important learning experiences for all first-year teachers: the student teaching experience. While mentor teachers are given one of the most important events of all teaching preparation programs, they are often given few resources and little support when hosting a student teacher. Due to the little support and few resources, mentoring a student teacher can often feel like an overwhelming task. Providing mentor teachers with the supports and resources they need is of the utmost importance because they help student teachers get prepared to have their own classroom. A mentor teacher training and handbook is beneficial to all mentor teachers, especially when it is tailored to the individual school and that individual’s school’s needs.
