Boĝazici University in Turkey has been working with ProQuest for over 10 years to provide various content and discoverability tools and collections for its students and other researchers who use the library facilities.
Recently celebrating its 150th anniversary, the university realized the library needed an upgraded portfolio of search and discovery systems, from a single provider. They approached ProQuest to provide the ideal solution. With trust and reliability already established between the two, the university had no hesitation implementing the Summon® Discovery Service.
The Summon service allows for searching across the whole of Boĝazici’s content collections – both physical and electronic from a single search box - and provides results as fast as the open web. As a plus, the University was able to brand the service with their logo.
Zepnep Metin, Head of Periodicals and Electronic Resources at Boĝazici University said, "We had a very positive response from our patrons after we implemented Summon. They particularly liked the one-box interface and commented on how quickly they could now access our resources, saving them time when conducting research."
In addition to the Summon service, the university was looking for a link resolver supported by a robust and updated knowledgebase to faultlessly integrate with Summon; 360 Link proved the ideal solution. Because it is hosted on ProQuest, this was a solution that would not only benefit the students but staff as well. No more manual backups, updates, or maintenance are needed, which allows the staff to focus on other important needs.
Finally, the university implemented ProQuest Central, an aggregated online database covering a variety of different disciplines, which, as Metin stated, "was ideal for us, as it not only provides standard library resources, but also over 56,000 dissertations and 100,000 working papers that are all full-text."
