Leaders from libraries and university research offices around the world discussed the latest trends in research management and identified opportunities for strengthening the impact of research activities

JERUSALEM, Israel, May 16, 2019 – Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the first meeting of the Ex Libris Research Management Advisory Council took place on May 14–16, 2019. The council consists of thought leaders from nine institutions in North America and Europe as well as Ex Libris experts in research management.

The meeting was co-moderated by Roger Schonfeld, director of libraries, scholarly communication, and museums for Ithaka S+R. Participants discussed trends in research management and approaches to current challenges, such as ways in which institutions can increase the impact of research activities, improve scholars’ engagement with research information management systems, and promote open-access initiatives like the Plan S initiative for open-access science publishing. The council will continue to provide guidance for the development of the Ex Libris suite of research solutions, including the Esploro™ research services platform.

In addition to holding annual meetings, the Advisory Council will conduct discussions and analysis of research-related topics in quarterly video conferences and other exchanges throughout the year to enable continuous collaboration.

Jeannette Frey, director of Bibliothèque Cantonale et Universitaire (BCU) Lausanne and president of LIBER, said, “I’m delighted to be a member of the Ex Libris Research Management Advisory Council. Libraries and research offices have a great opportunity to collaborate on key initiatives, such as promoting open science and streamlining research workflows. I’m looking forward to continue meeting with colleagues from other institutions to discuss ways to advance our cause.”

“At the University of Edinburgh, we are continuously working to improve research practices and support researchers across their project life cycle,” said Dr. Lorna Thomson, director of the Research Support Office at the University of Edinburgh. “Participation in this Advisory Council gives all of us an opportunity to work together and provide the best possible services to our scholarly communities.”

Nadav Doron, vice president of Research Information Management Solutions at Ex Libris, commented, “We are excited to form this new council and facilitate experts from around the world in sharing ideas and best practices. We support libraries and research offices in collaborating around current challenges in research management and hope that the new council will provide a basis for strengthening such partnerships.”
