Parliament will vote for a $394,000 annual salary, up from the $365,000 earned by incumbent Governor-General Major-General Michael Jeffery.
When Ms [Quentin Bryce] takes up the position, she and husband Michael will live at Government House in Canberra and have access to harbourside mansion Admiralty House in Sydney.
The bill setting Ms Bryce's salary is expected to pass Parliament next week.
INCOMING governor-general Quentin Bryce will earn almost $30,000 a year more than her predecessor.
Parliament will vote for a $394,000 annual salary, up from the $365,000 earned by incumbent Governor-General Major-General Michael Jeffery.
Ms Bryce will be paid more than Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who takes home $330,000 a year.
The Constitution prevents governors-general from receiving pay rises during their terms of office, which usually last about
five years.
Traditionally, the salary of the Queen's official representative in Australia is about the same as the chief justice of the High Court's.
Until 2001, governors-general were exempt from paying income tax but this was scrapped after the Queen agreed to pay income tax to the British government.
Ms Bryce, 65, is a former federal sex discrimination commissioner, lawyer and academic, and a delegate to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.
She is currently the Governor of Queensland.
