Abstract
This research explores the relationship between reduced data integrity and security integrations in product development. The problem is reduced data integrity due to a lack of proper security integration into product development. The project is significant to organizations as it informs them of the best practices, approaches, and frameworks to uphold data security and integrity. The research questions guiding this descriptive study are: What are the effects of reduced security integrations in product development on data integrity? What standard security features and controls can be used in product development to increase data integrity? The literature review looked at the actual process of integrating security during all the product lifecycle development phases to ensure all the vulnerabilities and flaws before releasing the final product to consumers. The software development lifecycle (SDLC) is integral to product development, aiding security integration into product development. A qualitative phenomenological study approach explores the relationship between reduced data integrity and security integrations in product development, with NVivo as the primary qualitative analysis software used. The dominant finding from the qualitative analysis indicates that security vulnerabilities, data privacy, realizing cyber risks, data leakage, and unauthorized data are the expected effects associated with reduced security integration during the overall product development. The research has implications for organizational leadership as it helps them formulate better policies, rules, and regulations governing secure product development.
