Abstract
This article aims to analyze what and how the teaching of algebra can be addressed in the early years of elementary school. The methodology adopted involved a qualitative approach, through documentary analysis. As results, we highlight the importance of coordination between the teaching of arithmetic and algebra since the early years of elementary school. With this in mind, it seems appropriate with the inclusion of proposed activities for teaching practice, constitute the object of study in areas of initial and continuing training of teachers who teach mathematics, including those working in the early years of schooling.
