Sixth round, Anfield, February 27, 1932, Liverpool 0 Chelsea 2 (Gallagher 44, Pearson 90) CHELSEA won a thrilling sixth round tie at Anfield thanks to goals at the end of each half from Hughie Gallagher and George Pearson.
The Londoners were value for their interval lead. Liverpool escaped when the talented Gallagher outpaced goalkeeper Elisha Scott in a race for a ball near the left-hand corner flag. Scott, lashing out a foot, failed to connect, leaving him stranded as Gallagher chipped towards the empty goal. Alec Jackson also failed to connect as he attempted to head the cross in. Then Gallagher, wriggling past defenders, centred for Harold Miller to slam a shot against the outside of the crossbar.
Chelsea finally struck on 42 minutes when Harold Miller and Liverpool's Tom Bradshaw collided and Pearson was given time to cross for the unmarked Gallagher to tap in at close range.
Liverpool were denied an equaliser by a linesman"s offside flag after Gordon Gunsen turned home a deflected effort from Barber.
Urged on by a roused crowd on the Kop, Leslie Brunton forced Chelsea goalkeeper Sam Millington into his first save of the match on 60 minutes. Liverpool, playing with determination rather than finesse, pressed hard for an equaliser. But in the last-minute Pearson beat Elisha Scott with a fine shot into the right-hand corner to send Chelsea into the semi-final.

Bridges 67) IAN ST JOHN notched his first FA Cup goal for Liverpool and his first into the Kop end at Anfield, pouncing on a through pass from striking partner Roger Hunt.
Bobby Tambling equalised from the misdirected clearance of Ron Yeats in the 18th minute but 10 minutes later Hunt put Liverpool back in front from Ian Callaghan"s cross.
The 18-year-old Peter Bonetti performed heroics in the Chelsea goal but could do nothing about St John"s bullet header from an Alan A"Court corner. Then A"Court made it 4-1 on 44 minutes.
