Abstract

In a traditional study the rational is conceived as a phenomenon in full agreement with the notions of reason and norm. Thus, whatever is reasonable is declared rational. From this same perspective, the irrational is taken as something opposed to these notions. But the question that contemporary researchers ask themselves is whether the rational and the irrational are really in opposition or conflict. Conceived from an interactive point of view, these notions are taken for realities which are conditioned. This is why, in a modern investigation, these entities are seized in unity and not in opposition. Analyzed as something mutable, they are brought into line with logic or the lack of logic. The mobility of the rational and the irrational is explained by the lack of any rational ideal, because what was rational in one era may no longer be rational in another.
